November 13, 2021: Second week into the month and here are a few things I do daily that I’d like to share.
Morning Life: Work Day
Waking Up
Everyday I wake up at 3am. Yup, exactly on the witching hour. Not for fun but because my phone alarm goes off and it’s time for me to get ready for work. I’m up at that time even on my only day off. My body has adapted an internal clock against it’s will.
I’ve gotten good at opening my eyes a few minutes before my alarm abruptly chirps of morning birds. Could be because of the anxiety it caused hearing birds so close to my face. Either way I’m up. Now whether I’m off the bed right away is a different story. Before I ultimately crawl over my still sleeping boyfriend (who wakes up for work at 4am), it’s normally hit or miss if I’m up and ready to go. Usually I look at my phone to see if maybe my job changed their mind. Maybe I don’t have to go in and still get paid for the day… Wishful thinking first thing in the morning.
Getting Dressed
Now that the weather is chiller I can dress in layers! I mainly wear my flannels and the same black scarf I took from my brother, covering the shirt I fell asleep in the night before. Keeps me nice and warm instead of putting on a new cold shirt and enduring the body chills. Also making sure to put on my long socks before my pants. There have been many a time I took the lazy way out and just slipped those bad boys right over my pants and said “the heck with it”. As long as I stay warm, I don’t care too much.
The shoes I put on rotate throughout the week. Sometimes it will be my composite-toe work shoes or just whatever sneakers match so I’m not walking around too crazy. Don’t need everyone to know my busy, you know?
Lunch Box Setup: Just in Case I Have to Work My Second Shift
I’m not big on eating breakfast this early in day but I still throw some stuff in my bag I can munch on. I fill my lunch bag with snacks, water and possibly a ginger ale. I tend to be nausea, after brushing my teeth, so the ginger ale settles my stomach when I don’t have a yogurt or banana on hand. Besides those, a small bag of chips, granola bar and one of whatever other snacks I have in stock get tossed right in.
I have two shelves above my dresser where we stock the rest of the junk food that doesn’t fit on top of said dresser. Mind you, this is in my room and it sits right next to the bed for easy access. I haven’t gained weight since high school so it will continue to be next to the bed until it becomes an issue…
Leaving for Work
Once I say bye to my boyfriend I have to check for three main things: phone, keys, and wallet. At this point I’m ready to go out into the cold and get into my car (which is equally as cold).
I defog my windshield, set my music, and head out. The drive is short but interesting since I normally see a lot of different animals. Rabbits, foxes, and a whole lot of deer. About 7 minutes later, I’m in the parking lot of my job with 30 minutes to kill.
I turn my car off and use this time to brush my hair. I make sure I don’t look as crazy as when I left my house. Normally, I don’t eat much or anything for the next 4 hours only some water and I’m good to go.
Before I actually venture through the parking lot and head inside the building, I have to remember a few things. I strap my scanner harness on, making sure my gloves are attached, hang my badge and car keys around my neck, and put on my mask. Once all of this is on, I’m set for the next 4 to 5 hours, depending on if they flex up an hour or less for the morning shift.
At Work Finally
I’ve been going to work. Taking a nap in my car only when I’m waiting for second shift to start. I stay my full shifts or at least the first one if I can get the second one off. End of the month until Christmas I’ve been told I have to pick up an extra shift… I’m trying to take advantage of not being there now before I’m stuck there extra. Still only have one day off. The pay is nice at the end of each week so I try and keep it civil.
Here’s where an array of things can occur. I can either be normal and go with the chaotic flow or create much needed altercations. I don’t mean starting physical fights because I already told my mom I wouldn’t fight back. She shakes her head when I say that. What I’m talking about is putting people in their place… like “this is my station, you gotta go” type interactions. Beyond that I may have to curse some people out for getting in my way and messing up my flow when it gets a bit more busy.
I’m trying to remember “no drama”. Continually keeping to myself and only speaking when spoken to, to avoid what I like to call “high school behavior”. I go to work to do just that, work. I’m not there to make friends or take it easy. That’s why all the mangers like me. They need someone to do something, I’m the first they pull. I make sure it’s like this in all my jobs so when I do act out a bit (mostly in the right) and management gets involved, I luck out. Everyone is always told, “leave her alone, she got it”. Music to my ears and a smile under my mask.
Still the Morning
First shift is over and it’s still the Morning. Only 8 or 9am and I’m free to do anything (if I don’t have a second shift). Eating breakfast is first priority. Then I can work on laundry, something art related, and/or catching up on shows, videos, and comics until it puts me to sleep.
A 1 to 4 hour nap later and I’m preparing for lunch. Whatever I was working on earlier I’ll continue until my boyfriend finally comes home from work and we figure out what we want for dinner. I make sure to eat 3 meals a day and a lot of snacks in between.
Winding Down
By this time it is only 5pm. We watch a movie or show while we wait for our dinner to arrive at the door. Or when we have something to make we cook together and eat at the dinner table and that’s always a nice change. We got back into a meal service that delivers the ingredients to our door with a recipe. Those are fun and cheaper than ordering out each night. It’s a nice bonding experience. Cooking in a small space, working on different parts of the meal that all comes together on the same plate in the end. I’m excited to eat freshly made food again!
Back on topic, once we are all fed, we take care of my animals. I’ve been having my boyfriend feed all 9 geckos and I handle the other 4 reptiles. They are more needy and require extra attention. Frank and Ham need certain things in their salads and Ham likes to roam the room when I have his door open. Agnes and Steven eat bugs and prefer a certain type because they are picky and their water setup is very hands on.
Eventually, after 30 minutes the most, everyone is ready for bed. We take our showers and relax until 8pm. That’s my bedtime but sometimes I push it until 9:30pm when we end up watching a good show. And then the cycle continues when I pass out and wake up before my 3am alarm.
