Each piece tells a story, this one was more a reminder:
A window frames a view within it’s dimensions. Look passed that and the view becomes that much more grand.
About Me
My name is Ariana Cruz. I am a graphic designer and an all around artist. No matter the medium, if I can get my hands on it, I can create something.
Whether it be digital art, drawing, sculpting, crocheting, or writing, I’m normally doing something to pass the time and clear my mind.
Recently though writing has become a struggle, and picking up a pencil to draw has been difficult. This blog is to help with my communication skills and lay out all my thoughts so it’s not all trapped in my head.
It all started with drawing. I would watch my dad sketch realistic portraits and still life and think how amazing it would be if I could do the same. So at a young age, I would scribble and doodle all over everything, even the walls. My family was very supportive and supplied me with crayons, colored pencils, and water colors. Those where the first mediums I worked with.
In grammar school, my art teacher placed me in the advance arts and provided me with canvas, acrylic paints and my first set of paint brushes. He taught me the basics and also gave me a real critic that made me start to question whether I enjoyed art or not.
Two of my English teachers taught me how to crochet during this stressful time of not being able to handle someone telling me I wasn’t doing a good job. Crocheting scarves, beanies, and blankets became calming and kept me at peace.
As I got older, colors in my art disappeared and I was introduced to professional graphite pencils and charcoal. This black and grey phase stuck around for a good while until my high school digital arts teacher mentioned I should do colored pieces for the school’s art show.
At that point, I got back into colors and I was doing digital art now learning the ins and outs of Adobe Photoshop. This had peaked my interest so much that I took it to college and it became my major. I graduated with a graphic design degree and never looked back.
Art in any of these forms just stood as a hobby. I didn’t take on many commissions and I definitely didn’t charge what I should have or at all. But I would like to focus on the writing aspect of it all now. Get the ball rolling with words before taking on major creative overload.
I believe showcasing some of my work throughout this blogging adventure will ease me into this world. And that’s what I’m after. I slow push in the right direction just one foot at a time. So I don’t trip and fall on my face as much.
I’m excited for this and I hope as you explore The Mind’s Escape you’ll get to know me more and join me on my journey.
